High ranking officials of the Ministries of Health, Commerce and Agriculture receive the new Ambassador of Argentina to Belize

Vice Minister of Commerce, Michael Singh welcomed the Argentine proposal to send experts from the Secretariat for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SEPyME) because he said that this was one of the key sectors that his Government wants to strengthen. He explained that training and development of human resources is a vital aspect of their strategy to add value to local production and get investors.

Ambassador Vaca Narvaja explained that Argentine SMEs provide 70% of jobs and are the backbone of her country’s re-industrialization policy.

José Alpuche, Vice-Minister of agriculture, explained the Argentine Ambassador that Belize wants to improve nutrition in the southern part of the country, through the recovery of recipes and traditions, but also wants to provide small farmers with simple technology so as to take advantage of the opportunities that exist for Belize in the livestock and poultry sectors.

Finally, in the Ministry of health, Patricia Vaca Narvaja received a draft copy of the National Strategic Plan 2013-2023, a document elaborated by all stakeholders in the health sector, and recently approved by the Government.

In addition to this, the Director of international relations of the Belize Ministry of Health, Melanie Quigley, explained the main challenges of the sector and emphasized that one of the objectives of Belize is to build capacities in disciplines such as Anesthesiology and surgery.

The Argentine Ambassador also shared the major health policies in Argentina, such as the SUMAR and REMEDIAR Programes, and their relation with non-communicable diseases. Finally, it was agreed to continue working to identify common areas where there may be reciprocal training.
