The Undersecretary of tourism quality and his team toured the country, along with technicians of the Belize Tourist Board (BTB), and identified various axes for a possible joint work, as the advice of public trusts focused on tourism, where the Argentina has extensive experience; the exchange of manuals for quality aspect in which Belize has worked much recently, and also techniques of marketing for the South American market.
Their presence is part of the relaunch of the relationship with this Central American country, following the visit of the Belizean Foreign Minister to Argentina in October last year and the recent presentation of letters of credence by the Ambassador Patricia Vaca Narvaja.
Tourism is a key sector in Belize, and has been growing steadily at a rate of 5% per year in the last decade. In 2013 the country received nearly one million visitors, i.e. three times its population. Americans and Canadians were most arrived by cruise ship to visit the Belizean jungle and diving in the coral reef, the second largest in the world.
In recent years, Belize has sought to position itself in the market Latin American, especially the Mexican, and more recently has turned to the Southern Cone, to not be dependent on a single market.
Through this 6266 FO.AR project, funded by the Argentine Fund for South-South cooperation and Triangular (FO.AR) of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, will seeks to contribute to the development of the Belize tourism industry, and also learn from the experience of this country, to strengthen the sector in the Argentina.
