Argentina and Belice sign Agreement on South-South Cooperation

The Argentine Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman and his counterpart of Belize, the Hon. Wilfred Elrington, signed today an Agreement of South-South Cooperation that will strengthen ties between the two countries and search for shared development in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belize visited Argentina from 21 to 22 October, invited by Foreign Minister Timerman. Yesterday, both Ministers held a working meeting to address the main issues of bilateral relations.

Yesterday afternoon, Elrington received the National Director of Technical and Professional Education, Gustavo Peltzer, and the Director of the Program of Bicentennial Youth Orchestras, Claudio Spector, both officials from the Argentine Ministry of Education. The Belizean Foreign Minister expressed special interest in learning about our country's experience in both areas. The delegations agreed to start the exchange of youth orchestras, and Elrington also requested that technical teachers from different disciplines cooperate in the training of Belizean educators.

The visitor held a meeting at the Ministry of Health with the Secretary of Determinants of Health and Health Affairs, Dr. Mario Eduardo Bustos Villar, who announced the dispatch of a cooperation mission on health issues to Belize in the first quarter of the year 2014.

He later met with the Secretary of Organization and Community Communication at the Ministry of Social Development, Inés Paez D'Alessandro.

Elrington was received today by the Secretary of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Regional Development of the Ministry of Industry, Horacio Roura, who spoke about the different services provided to private enterprises by the State in the Argentina.

He also met with the Undersecretary of Tourism Quality of the Ministry of Tourism, Gonzalo Casanova, who said that it would add Belize among the nations to be visited by the mission of experts that the Ministry scheduled for next December.
